Growing up, I loved Saturday morning cartoons. I wrote another blog about the fact that this was pretty much the only time we could watch cartoons and that made it special. One cartoon that I really enjoyed, partly because it was about superheroes and partly because it was a throwback to the classic Looney Tunes (the best cartoons every made!), was Mighty Mouse The New Adventures. I made this piece as a tribute but also for a chance to draw muscles! I tried to make the buildings resemble the backgrounds from the show.
I also really loved the show's theme song (even after not seeing the show for like 15 yrs I could still remember most of it!) One part says "Here he comes that Mighty Mouse, coming to vanquish the foe witha mighty blow! So don't be afraid anymore, cause things won't be like they've been before". Of course you know I see the Gospel in this. Jesus Christ was and is small and insignificant in the eyes of the world like a mouse, yet He is mighty to save! And He came to rescue us from our enemies and we no longer have to fear, cuz He makes all things new. Things won't be like they've been before! Certainly that is true in my life and countless millions who have been changed from the inside out by Jesus. And certainly it wil be true for all creation, when He restores all things. Of course the makers of Mighty Mouse the New Adventures were not Christians, but God's message comes out in spite of man's rejection of it.
By the way, caught Frozen on the big screen and it's there too. Redemption by love. One character dies to save another and is resurrected. You can run but you can't hide from God's love in the gospel. Just surrender.
"Here I come to save the day! Thank goodness Mighty Mouse is on his way! So let the trumpet players play! For Mighty Mouse is here today!"
